Nokia Android 12 update roll out tracker [Cont. updated]

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 30, 2021) follows:

Nokia is perhaps one of the most popular names in the mobile phone industry, but the story isn’t the same when it comes to smartphones.

Unlike Samsung and Apple that command massive fan bases, not so many out there own a Nokia smartphone today. But for the few that own one, we have some news for you.

Depending on the model you own, the new Android 12 update may or may not be available for your Nokia device when the OS begins rolling out officially.

Nokia Android 12 update release date

Nokia sat out the previous Android 11 beta testing program, prompting suggestions that the Finnish company may have laxed on matters of timely software updates.

As a result of this move, the stable update to Android 11 for Nokia devices has been the slowest we’ve witnessed since the company made its comeback with Android One.

In fact, companies like Samsung, Xiaomi and even Oppo that were once renowned for their slow updates are now ahead of Nokia. And it doesn’t look like any improvements are in line for the Nokia Android 12 update rollout.

Google released the first developer preview in mid-February and will keep pushing new builds until May, which is when the public beta will go live.

Whether Nokia will provide an early Android 12 build to some of its devices remains unclear for now. But as noted, it’s unlikely to be the case, at least going by what happened last year.

That said, the release of Android 12 update could take a similar period as Android 11 to begin rolling out to eligible devices, but of course, we will update this article once we have official info.

List of eligible/supported devices

Speaking of eligible devices, there are several of them that will be upgraded to Android 12. After all, Nokia still uses Android One and we all know what the program promises in terms of OS updates.

For the uninitiated, all Android One devices get two major Android OS updates. This means that for any Android One-based Nokia device pre-installed with Android 11 out of the box, an update to Android 12 is guaranteed.

Nokia 3.4

The same is also true for Android One-powered Nokia devices that ship with Android 10 since they still have one more major OS update after they receive the update to Android 11.

In case your Nokia device is yet to bag the update to Android 11, you can keep an eye on our tracker here to get notified when the OS arrives, regardless of your region.

As for the Nokia devices we think will be upgraded to Android 12, check out the list below:

Nokia 8.3 5G
Nokia 8 V 5G UW (Verizon Wireless)
Nokia 5.4
Nokia 5.3
Nokia 3.4
– Nokia 2.4
– Nokia 1.3

A few other Nokia devices that might miss out on an update to Android 12 include the Nokia C3, Nokia C1 Plus, Nokia 2 V Tella, Nokia C5 Endi, Nokia C2 Tennen, and Nokia C2 Tava.

Again, none of this info is official, so we still have to wait for Nokia to confirm its Android 12-eligible devices and when to expect the update to roll out.
